Boarding at Good Pickin’

All boarded horses will receive:
Hay fed 3 times daily; and grass pasture turn out seasonally
Grain procured as agreed by owner and barn on the “Horse Information Form” fed 2 times daily
Supplements/oral medications/special feeds procured by the owner as agreed by owner and barn on the “Horse Information Form” fed 2 times daily with grain
Feed bowls cleaned daily
Unlimited fresh water daily: 100 and 50 gallon water drums cleaned at least 2 times weekly, or 17 gallon buckets cleaned at least 3 times weekly
Daily turn out in small, compatible groupings (individual turn out available if needed)
Seasonal use of the outdoor wash stall
Unlimited use of the riding ring, so long as such use does not interfere with prescheduled Barn activities
Boarders will have:
Access to the heated tack room with hot and cold running water and bathroom
Space for at least one set of saddle and tack in the heated tack room
A locker for storing personal items in the heated tack room
Additional storage space available for extra supplies/saddles available in the hay lofts
First rights to enroll in any clinic/training/talk/class offered by the Barn
The opportunity to participate in Barn arranged and executed yearly veterinary care and worming. See below for an explanation of our practices.
The opportunity to work with their own trainer/instructor/vet/farrier/other equine professional as they wish.
Pasture Board - $700/month
Horses have access to a run-in shed and are kept outdoors year-round
Run in sheds cleaned daily
Individual grain/supplements/special feed/oral medications fed 2 times daily in paddock
Stall Board - $795/month
Individual stall – 12 by 12, with at least one window for lighting and ventilation
Individual water bucket, cleaned daily
Individual grain/supplements/special feed/oral medications fed 2 times daily in stall
Stall cleaned daily
Ample fresh shavings used for bedding
The Barn and Barn Staff will:
Strive to get to know each horse and boarder well
Care for the horse on a regular schedule that does not vary significantly from day to day
Arrange for yearly veterinary care (spring shots) with our vet, unless the Boarder prefers to use his/her own veterinarian. Vet fees to be assumed by the boarder.
Fecal samples from each compatible horse grouping (herd) will be taken at least 3 times yearly to determine appropriate use of wormers in accordance with the recommendations from the results of the samples. Cost of testing and wormer to be assumed the Boarder. Should the Boarder choose to worm his/her own horse, it must be done in conjunction with his/her horse’s herd mates.
Barn staff is available to assist with holding a horse for the farrier/vet at an hourly rate of $15/hour when agreed to in advance.
Boarders are expected to:
Conduct themselves in a positive manner that is safe for themselves, their horses, and those around them
Treat horses, other boarders, and visitors to the Barn with respect
Attend to their horse’s needs beyond the board agreement, including regular farrier visits, additional veterinary care and exercise as should be reasonably provided to maintain a healthy horse
Work collaboratively with staff to resolve any behavioral issues that may arise, including, if needed, hiring professional support to resolve dangerous behavior.
Clean up after any horse they are working with in the ring, aisleways, driveways and grassy areas by picnic tables
Keep and maintain their tack and belongings in a safe and orderly fashion
