Riding Lessons at Good Pickin’

Good Pickin’ Farm offers Beginner, Advanced Beginner, and Intermediate horseback riding lessons given by Massachusetts Licensed Riding Instructors. Students will learn about horsemanship, grooming and tacking, and, of course riding.

We share our love of horses, our love of learning and the excitement of being on horseback to students of all ages and levels.  We are not a show barn or a competitive barn.  Our approach is to meet our students where they are - we are all about having fun, and guiding our students to develop confidence, responsibility and foster a love of horses.

Please fill out the form below if you’re interested in lessons!

We operate on a session-to-session basis. We are committed to the health and happiness of our horses - certain days are the horses “rest days” to frolic with their friends in their paddocks!

Horsemanship (Unmounted) Lessons

Riding is just one piece of the equestrian experience! We also offer horsemanship lessons, where students learn horse care, handling, and groundwork. These lessons follow the same pricing as our riding sessions.

Important: On rainy days (or whenever the instructor sees fit), lessons will take place in the barn, focusing on horse care, groundwork, and barn safety. We want all our riders to be well-rounded horsepeople!

Getting Started: Evaluations & Placement

Before joining a regular class, every new student starts with a 30-minute evaluation lesson.

This helps us:
✔️ Assess riding level
✔️ Place students in the right group
✔️ Make sure your child is comfortable and excited about riding!

For therapeutic riding students, an evaluation is also required to determine how we can best support their needs.

Helmet Policy & Safety

Safety first! All riders must have their own properly fitted riding helmet. If you’re just starting out, we’re happy to provide a loaner helmet until you get your own. This is a required safety policy for all students.

What People Are Saying

Good Pickin’ Farm is an amazing place! I first started out going there for a summer camp and loved the environment. I started taking lessons and next thing I knew I was also volunteering with barn chores. I also lease a horse there. Everyone at Good Pickin’ Farm is wonderful, they are all so kind and helpful. The horses are amazing and well behaved and very well taken care of. If you are thinking of going to Good Pickin’ Farm you will love it .

— SB (current student, age 12)

“I love that I get to spend time with the horses! Cara is such a good instructor - she does a lot of fun things with us and she’s really nice. I love the ponies at the barn - Greda is my favorite, but I ride Simba for my lessons.

— RC (current student, age 7)
