Volunteering at Good Pickin’ Farm

How can you help?

Want to get your hands dirty helping us in the gardens? Or get some exercise cleaning out horse stalls? Or maybe help out some days in the School House or at Summer Farm Camp? Please contact us to see what you can do!

Horse/Livestock Animal Care:

Fence Maintenance
Barn Chores
Turn-in/Turn-out

On-Going Help Needed for:

The Farm Shop
The Farm Shop is now open in its new location in the shed next to the CSA Garden! Tish will be working in the shop much of the time, but we need volunteers to help run the shop and recording sales when she is not available.

Paint the red buildings
All of our buildings need to be continually refreshed, so we cycle through the painting.

Weeding
All of the gardens are in perpetual need of weeding.

Events
We often need help with our Summer Concert Series and other events such as Easter Egg Hunts, Halloween, Hoe Down, etc.

One-Time Projects:

Flower/Herb Garden Pond
Matt, our CSA Director has already dug an area for the pond form.

We still need help with:

  • Picking up flat field stones from the quarry in Lunenburg (or elsewhere if you have ideas)

  • Lay the stones for a border and waterfall

  • Buy or find some decorative plants to fill in between the stones

  • Fill pond with water, goldfish, snails, aerating plants & pumps

The Natural Playground
This is the wooded area in the middle of the property abutting Rt. 40 on the School House side of the farm. The children love to play there and have envisioned fun and natural things to climb, slide, hide and play in.

We still need help with:

  • Creating a plan for specific additions

  • Finding materials for additions

  • Building and placing specific additions

The Garden Path
We would like to specify a path leading to a Woodland Garden. The area would offer contemplative and calming features such as a stone labyrinth, natural wind chimes, and art in addition to beautiful flora native to the woods.

We need help with:

  • Clearing the paths and defining the garden area

  • Planting native flora

  • Finding stones and building the labyrinth

  • Adding other contemplative features, such as wind chimes and art

  • Creating signs pointing to the path and leading the way
